David Hammond is an Emmy award-winning producer whose has been working in the marketing and communications field since 1989. During that time, Hammond has founded and run several successful media organizations, including the Great Lakes Radio Consortium, Michigan Radio’s National Programs Division, the Michigan Sports Network, and the Great Lakes Television Network (GLTV).
Over the last three decades, Hammond has received more than 70 national, state, and regional awards for journalistic excellence. This includes two Emmy awards and six Emmy nominations for the “Sprawling of America” documentary series, for which Hammond served as Senior Producer. The 2-part series was the highest-rated, locally produced documentary ever aired on public television in Michigan. Hammond has also produced, written, and hosted the award-winning television documentary, “Insatiable Thirst: Groundwater and the Crisis of Development.”
A former professional baseball pitcher (Philadelphia Phillies), Hammond has served as radio announcer for the football and basketball broadcasts of the University of Michigan and Syracuse University. He has also done television sports broadcasting for NBC.
Hammond received his B.A. from Dartmouth College, majoring in Geography/Environmental Studies and his M.A with Honors from the University of Chicago.
Hammond currently lives in SE Michigan with his wife and four children.
